Founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, by two motorcycle enthusiasts, Sir William Lyons and William Walmsley, the SS Jaguar name first appeared on the 2.5-liter sedan in 1935, which is the sport model SS 90 and SS 100. Jaguar name given to all firms in the year 1945 when the SS was dropped due to lack of popularity of the World War II.

Two of the times when the proudest in the long history of Jaguar in winning the race is 24 hours of Lemans for the first time in 1956 and 1957 at the hands of little known Scottish racing team called Ecurie Écosse whose name then goes to the legendary status twice draw from David v Goliath efforts to kill the famous car race.

Jaguar, pronounced / dʒæɡju ː ər / JAG-yew-ər (English) or pronounced / dʒæɡwɑr / JAG-wahr (USA), a name created in the 1950s with a series of elegant style and luxury sports car saloons. In 1951 the company leased what would soon become the main plant of the Daimler Motor Company (not to be confused with Daimler-Benz), and in 1960, Daimler purchased from its parent company, Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA). From the late 1960s, Daimler is used as the brand name Jaguar's most luxurious saloons.

Jaguar merged with British Motor Corporation (BMC), Austin-Morris combine, to form British Motor Holdings (BMH) in 1966. After merging with Leyland, which had been taken over Rover and Standard Triumph, the resulting company became British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC) in 1968. Financial difficulties and the publication of Ryder Report led to effective nationalization in 1975 and the company became British Leyland Ltd (later simply BL plc).

In the 1970s the Jaguar and Daimler marques are part of BL's specialist car division or Jaguar Rover Triumph Ltd until the restructuring in the early 1980s saw most of the BL volume car manufacturing side of the Austin Rover Jaguar in which groups are not included. In 1984, Jaguar was floated off as a separate company on the stock market - one of the Thatcher government's many privatizations.

Jaguar Cars Ltd, better known simply as the Jaguar is a British luxury car manufacturer, headquartered in Coventry, England. This has become a subsidiary wholly owned by Indian company Tata Motors Ltd. since March 2008 and operated as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business.

The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II because of unfavorable connotations of the initials SS. Here are a few changes of ownership since the 1960s, Jaguar was listed on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index until acquired by Ford in 1989. Jaguar also holds the Royal Warrant from HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Charles.

Jaguar cars currently designed at Jaguar Land Rover's engineering center in Whitley in Coventry and factory in Gaydon in Warwickshire, and is produced in two Jaguar Land Rover plant; Castle Bromwich assembly plant in Birmingham and Halewood Body & Assembly near Liverpool.
